Where to find it - iOS 18 and later

  1. Passwords

Passwords became its own app in iOS 18.

What it does

It became a separate app in iOS 18, having previously lived inside Settings. It stores passwords and passkeys, generates strong passwords, holds two factor codes, warns about reused or leaked passwords, and supports shared groups for families.

What changes

When it is on

Passwords are saved and offered automatically when you sign in.

When it is off

You manage passwords yourself.

Should you turn it on?

Good reasons to turn it on

  • Strong unique passwords without any effort.
  • Security recommendations flag reused and leaked passwords.
  • Verification codes fill automatically.

Good reasons to turn it off

  • You already use another password manager.
  • Storing two factor codes beside the password reduces the benefit of two factors.

Questions people actually ask

Where are my saved passwords on iPhone?
In the Passwords app on iOS 18 and later. On earlier releases, Settings, then Passwords.
Can I see a Wi-Fi password I saved?
Yes. Open Passwords and look under Wi-Fi.

If it is not working

  • In iOS 18 and later it is an app. Before that, it was under Settings, then Passwords.
  • Wi-Fi passwords are stored here and can be recovered after a network reset.
  • Security Recommendations is the most valuable screen and almost nobody opens it.
