Apple Account and iCloud

Your account, what syncs, what is backed up, and who can get back in.

iCloud Backup

Available

iCloud Backup copies your device settings, app data, messages and photos to iCloud automatically when the phone is locked, charging and on Wi-Fi.

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > iCloud Backup

iCloud storage

Available

Manage Storage shows what is using your iCloud allowance, which is almost always backups and photos, and lets you delete or upgrade.

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Manage Account Storage

Family Sharing

Available

Family Sharing lets up to six people share an iCloud storage plan, subscriptions and purchases, and gives a parent the controls needed for a child account.

Settings > Apple Account > Family Sharing

Advanced Data Protection

Available

Advanced Data Protection extends end to end encryption to most iCloud categories, including backups and photos, so not even Apple can read them.

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Advanced Data Protection

iCloud Private Relay

Region dependent

Safari browsing is sent through two separate relays so no single party, including Apple, can see both who you are and which site you are visiting.

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Private Relay

Hide My Email

Available

Hide My Email creates a unique random address that forwards to your real inbox, and you can switch it off at any time.

Settings > Apple Account > iCloud > Hide My Email

Account Recovery Contact

Available

A trusted person can generate a code that helps you regain access to your Apple Account if you forget your password.

Settings > Apple Account > Sign-In & Security > Account Recovery

Trusted phone numbers

Available

Two factor authentication sends verification codes to your trusted devices and to the phone numbers listed here.

Settings > Apple Account > Sign-In & Security > Trusted Phone Numbers
