A word search is the quickest thing to hand out and the easiest to differentiate, because the difficulty setting changes the grid size and the directions words may run without changing the words themselves. A crossword asks for definitions as well as words, so it takes longer to set up but tests understanding rather than recognition.
For spelling practice, the spelling worksheet and the word scramble both make the learner reconstruct the word rather than spot it. Bingo cards and flashcards are for whole-class or paired work. Matching and fill in the blank suit vocabulary that has a meaning attached, not just a spelling.
