Battery and charging
Battery usage by app
Most people call this what is actually draining your battery.
The Battery screen breaks down which apps used your charge over the last day or ten days, and separates screen time from background time.
This setting is present on your iPhone.

Where to find it - iOS 9 and later

What it does
Each app gets a share of the battery used in the period. Tapping the list switches between the percentage each app used and the time it spent on screen or working in the background.
An app with a lot of background activity and almost no screen time is usually the one worth investigating.

Questions people actually ask
- Which app is draining my battery?
- Open Settings, then Battery, and read the list. Sort your attention by background activity rather than total percentage.
If it is not working
- A high figure for an app you used heavily is normal and not a fault.
- Look for background activity out of proportion to use, then restrict that app's background refresh or location access.
- Activity attributed to Home and Lock Screen usually means the display itself, not an app.
