Reduce White Point
Most people call this making even the brightest whites dimmer.
This lowers the intensity of bright colours beyond what the brightness slider can reach, which helps in a very dark room.
This setting is present on your iPhone.
- We have this path on file but have not yet confirmed it against an official source.
Where to find it - iOS 13 and later
- Settings
- Accessibility
- Display & Text Size
- Reduce White Point
What it does
It caps how bright the display's whites can be, by a percentage you choose. It works below the normal brightness floor, so the screen can be made much dimmer than the slider allows.
What changes
When it is on
Whites and bright colours are dimmed by the percentage you set.
When it is off
Full brightness range returns.
Should you turn it on?
Good reasons to turn it on
- The screen can go far dimmer than the slider allows.
- Reduces eye strain when reading in the dark.
- Helps with light sensitivity and migraine.
Good reasons to turn it off
- The screen becomes unreadable outdoors if you forget it is on.
- It is the usual cause of a phone that seems stuck dark.
