Typing test preparation checklist
Print this and run through it before a real assessment.
- Use the same type of keyboard you will use on the day, if you possibly can.
- Check the required test duration and practise at exactly that length.
- Find out whether backspace is allowed - some assessments disable it entirely.
- Confirm the WPM and accuracy thresholds you actually need to hit.
- Practise accuracy before chasing speed. Errors cost more than slow keystrokes.
- Sit comfortably: feet flat, forearms level, wrists relaxed rather than resting hard.
- Warm up for two or three minutes immediately before the test.
- Do not change keyboard layout at the last moment. Familiarity beats theory.
- Practise numbers and punctuation separately when the job needs them.
