Typing Accuracy Guide

Accuracy is the share of characters you type correctly on the first attempt. Correcting a mistake with backspace still counts against accuracy, even though it stops counting against your net speed once the right character is in place.

That distinction matters. Two figures describe your typing: gross WPM, which ignores mistakes entirely, and net WPM, which subtracts the errors you left behind. A large gap between them means you are typing faster than you can control.

The practical target is 95% or better for general work and 98% for data entry. If you are below 90%, slow down by about ten per cent and stay there until the errors clear. It feels like going backwards for a week, and then it does not.
