Goal

Save battery

Settings that change how much power your iPhone uses during a normal day.

Optimized Battery Charging

Available Battery and charging

Your iPhone learns your daily routine and holds the charge near 80 percent, finishing the last part just before you normally unplug it.

Settings > Battery > Charging > Optimized Battery Charging

Battery Health

Available Battery and charging

This screen shows what percentage of its original capacity your battery still holds, and warns you when it has aged enough to affect the phone.

Settings > Battery > Battery Health

Location Services

Available Privacy and security

Location Services is the master list of every app that can use your position, and the level of access each one has.

Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services

Background App Refresh

Available General and system

Background App Refresh lets apps fetch new content while they are closed, which keeps them current at the cost of battery and data.

Settings > General > Background App Refresh

Allow Notifications

Available Notifications and Focus

Each app has its own notification switch, plus separate control over the Lock Screen, banners, notification centre, sounds and badges.

Settings > Notifications > App name > Allow Notifications

Low Power Mode

Available Battery and charging

Low Power Mode cuts background activity and visual effects to stretch the charge you have left, and turns the battery icon yellow while it is on.

Settings > Battery > Low Power Mode

Battery Percentage

Available Battery and charging

This shows the exact charge as a number in the status bar instead of only a battery shape.

Settings > Battery > Battery Percentage

Dark Mode

Available Display and appearance

Dark Mode switches the system and supporting apps to a dark colour scheme, and can follow a schedule such as sunset to sunrise.

Settings > Display & Brightness > Appearance

Raise to Wake

Available Display and appearance

Your iPhone uses its motion sensors to notice when you lift it and turns the screen on without you pressing anything.

Settings > Display & Brightness > Raise to Wake

Brightness

Available Display and appearance

The brightness slider sets the base level of the display, and everything else the phone does adjusts around it.

Settings > Display & Brightness > Brightness

Charge Limit

Available Battery and charging

You can tell your iPhone never to charge past a chosen percentage, so the battery spends less of its life sitting full.

Settings > Battery > Charging > Charge Limit

Auto-Lock

Available Display and appearance

Auto-Lock decides how many seconds of no touching pass before the screen turns off and the phone locks.

Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock

Battery usage by app

Available Battery and charging

The Battery screen breaks down which apps used your charge over the last day or ten days, and separates screen time from background time.

Settings > Battery

Auto-Brightness

Available Display and appearance

The ambient light sensor raises and lowers screen brightness to match your surroundings, and the switch lives under Accessibility rather than Display.

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Auto-Brightness

Always-On display

Available Display and appearance

Instead of going black, the Lock Screen dims to a very low refresh rate and keeps showing the time, your wallpaper and your widgets.

Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On Display

Bluetooth

Available Network and connectivity

The Bluetooth screen pairs and manages accessories, and switching it off here is different from switching it off in Control Centre.

Settings > Bluetooth

Low Data Mode

Available Network and connectivity

Low Data Mode pauses automatic updates and background tasks and asks apps to use less data, and it can be set separately for cellular and for individual Wi-Fi networks.

Settings > Wi-Fi > Network name > Low Data Mode

Precise Location

Available Privacy and security

Turning Precise Location off for an app gives it an approximate area instead of your exact position.

Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > App name > Precise Location

Voice and Data, and 5G mode

Available Network and connectivity

You can let the phone decide when 5G is worth the battery, force it on whenever available, or fall back to LTE only.

Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data

Per app location

Available Apps and defaults

Each app's location access is set individually to Never, Ask Next Time, While Using the App, or Always.

Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > App name

MagSafe charging

Available Battery and charging

MagSafe uses magnets to align a wireless charger with the coil in your iPhone, which charges faster and more reliably than dropping it on a flat pad.

Settings > Battery

System haptics and vibration

Available Sound and haptics

System Haptics controls the small taps you feel when using the interface, separately from vibration for calls and alerts.

Settings > Sounds & Haptics > System Haptics

Fast charging

Available Battery and charging

With a high enough power adapter, an iPhone can take a large share of its charge in the first half hour, then deliberately slows for the rest.

Settings > Battery

Shortcuts and automations

Available Shortcuts and automation

Shortcuts run sequences of actions, and automations run them on a trigger such as a time, an alarm, arriving somewhere or tapping an NFC tag.

Settings > Apps > Shortcuts

Thermally limited charging

Available Battery and charging

When your iPhone gets warm it deliberately slows or pauses charging to protect the battery, and it may tell you charging is on hold.

Settings > Battery

Tap to Wake

Available Display and appearance

A single tap anywhere on a dark screen wakes the iPhone, with no button needed.

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Tap to Wake

Peak Performance Capability

Available Battery and charging

This line tells you whether your battery can still supply power fast enough, or whether the phone is limiting performance to stop unexpected shutdowns.

Settings > Battery > Battery Health > Peak Performance Capability

ProMotion and refresh rate

Available Device-specific hardware settings

ProMotion lets the display change its refresh rate up to 120Hz for smoother scrolling, and down to a very low rate to save power.

Settings > Accessibility > Motion > Limit Frame Rate

Bluetooth access for apps

Available Privacy and security

Apps need permission to use Bluetooth, because nearby device signals can be used to work out where you are without using location.

Settings > Privacy & Security > Bluetooth

Charging over the wired connector

Available Battery and charging

The wired port charges your iPhone, and on USB-C models it can also send power out to accessories such as headphones or another phone.

Settings > Battery

Clean Energy Charging

Region dependent Battery and charging

Your iPhone can shift part of a long charge to times when the local electricity grid is running on cleaner energy.

Settings > Battery > Charging > Clean Energy Charging
